I would like to see a multi-part series that takes Sharepoint Services 2.0 and builds a Webcast Sharepoint Site open to the webcast viewers in which a site is created for each topic group where the archive presentations are kept, the script of the questions, and answers, sample code, links to related materials, and a discussion thread is started to continue the discussion after the presentation. It should develop a Webcast calendar published on the Sharepoint site that users can bring down into their Outlook calendar as a side-by-side view against their own calendar, and simply drag the desired future webcasts onto their calendar to enroll in future webcasts. This would provide a usefil tool, and the webcast series could go throught the analysis, design, testing, and deployment of this product to show how .NET can be used to rapidly create a product that is actually consumed by Webcast viewers. This would also show an effort on Microsoft's part to more closely integrate Live Meeting into the rest of the Office Suite providing a prototype of how corporations could create training sites, or other colaboration sites that fully leverage Microsoft Office, Sharpoint Services, and Live Meeting.

I would like to see new webcasts on web development for the upcoming ASP.NET 2 techonologies, but don't stop doing the ones on the ASP.NET versions we use today.

Also, look for content that leads to the use of web standards. People like the ones running webstandards.org or whatwg.org are making great advances for the web development field.

More webcasts on best practices oriented to methodologies like the one on Unit Testing would be good. Some about Software Configuration Management would be great.

By the way, is there a way to get the PowerPoint presentations or code once the webcast has been recorded? It would be good to have those resources available besides the windows media content.

I forgot to add. It would be a lot of help to have a search tool on the webcasts site. It's kind of impossible to search for old webcasts.

Instead of a request, I have a question for you and didn't know where else to ask it.

Recently, I read the post you made about how to download previous MSDN webcasts.

While I am able to download archived webcasts, I haven't been able to figure how to get the downloaded WMV files to rewind and fast forward.

I tried using the Windows Media File Editor utility program (a free utility that comes with Windows Media Encoder 9) and for some reason it can't properly index (indexing gives you the ablity to rewind/fast forward WMV files) these particular WMV files.

Have you or any of your readers been able to index the MSDN webcast WMV files? The reason that I am asking this question is there are times when I would like to watch half of a movie one night and then watch the other half of the movie when I can find the time to do so.

Great question. I haven't figured that out yet either. I know it works in the Live Meeting Wrapper. Perhaps Stuart Gunter and Janco Wolmarans might have an answer to this?

I'm glad to hear that a lot of ASP.NET content will invade the MSDN Webcasts. =)

How do I find the webcasts on Software Configuration Management? I would really like to see more of this kind of content. And also content on architecture topics.

I think the MSDN Toolbar could be a good idea, but eitherway the site should have a search page to look for past webcasts for people that do not want to install more Toolbars or is using a browser that's not IE.
A similar toolbar was created for MSDN Latinoamerica and Spain. You can get it here http://www.microsoft.com/spanish/msdn/toolbar/default.asp.

    Hi Georgeo,

Just an FYI update to your response to my question. Another reason why I posted my question is that unlike yourself, I cannot rewind/ffwd when using the PlaceWare Replay Wrapper Utility program. I found the reason why I can't do this within the HTML help page that pops up when the Help button is pressed within the wrapper program. Inside the help page it states the following, "When playing a PlaceWare Replay recording, you must connect at 100 kilobits per second (Kbps) or faster, such as by using an ISDN or DSL connection."

My problem as far as using the PlaceWare Replay Wrapper Utility is concerned is that I downloaded several WMV files using NetTransport while connected to the internet via a dial-up connection.

You might have noticed that I used the Placeware instead of Live Meeting. I downloaded the utility program manually via this URL: http://main.placeware.com/support/pw_replay_wrapper_info.cfm

I did this because I don't like stuff being installed on my computer without knowing how to properly get rid of it. Perhaps I am using an outdated or incorrect version of the Replay Wrapper? I don't think I am, but you never know.

Good Feedback. Let me check with the Live Meeting team and see what we can do here. If you want email me at georgeop@microsoft.com directly and we can hopefully find a resolutiof for this problem.
