Two new small features in Orcas

Hi:

Recently one of our developers blogged about two new Orcas features that look to alleviate some pain for those customers who have multiple mappings per workspace (50 or more) - we being one of them. The features are Mappings under Cloaks and One Level Mappings.

Their benefits are twofold:

1. Make management of workspace paths easier, in fact right down manageable, and in turn reduce mapping errors with dependencies. One of the main problems with so many mappings is that when you get a build break due to some missing dll or reference you have to constantly be checking that it is not due to some dependency on a file that is not mapped and hence not on your machine, which takes a lot of time and reduces overall productivity. In addition, setting up the initial workspace is a royal pain which sometimes leaves to unmapped directories and more developer build errors.

2. Improve performance of Get and other highly used operations for organizations with a large number of mappings. In simple words, in our system the more workspace mappings you have the more time the DataTier will spend doing certain type of operations. Reducing the number of mappings gives these users back the performance they expect and had in their pilot with TFS.

I encourage you guys to play with them in the upcoming CTP if you get a chance. Let us know if we can make them any better.
