App Store for Windows Mobile Devices

Some one showed me the Google App Store today for the G1/Android phone, and I thought the MS version of the App Store might be the Total Access landing page. I was wrong (again). There is an application store for Windows Mobile Devices (smartphones):

Mobile2Market's Windows Mobile Certified Software Catalog Home Page, includes Microsoft Windows Pocket PC (Touchscreen), and Microsoft Smartphone (Non-touchscreen)s

But – you aren’t buying apps right from the site, but you are redirected to app vendors like Handango. I don’t see any free apps – those I guess you have to get from Total Access.

CES came and went without an announcement of Zune services for windows mobile devices – but last week I did see a blog with a very real looking photo of zune software running on a WMD touchscreen phone. I can’t find it now…

The whole app store concept came out of nowhere and has taken the mobile space by storm.
