Wednesday November 15th

Association of Information Technology Professionals (AITP)

Lehigh Valley Chapter

Discussion Theme:

"PPL Telcom - a View from the Supplier's Side"

Speaker: Mr. Edward Brignole, Director - Business Services, PPL Telcom, LLC

PPL Telcom is a "carrier's carrier" of broadband fiber-optic services for high-speed data transmission. The unique blend of experience in telecommunications and electric utility operations means they have the infrastructure, business systems and technology to offer highly reliable point-to-point data transport, high-speed connections among multiple sites, and access to national fiber-optic networks.

PPL Telcom also provides world-class broadband service in eastern and central Pennsylvania markets that other carriers do not serve, including the Lehigh Valley, Harrisburg, Lancaster, Reading, Scranton, Wilkes-Barre, Williamsport and York. In addition to the Pennsylvania markets, PPL Telcom provides services along the Northeast Corridor, from New York City to northern Virginia, and as far west as Pittsburgh, Pa. PPL Telcom has deployed next-generation network technology such as
Ethernet scalable from 10 Mbps up to 1,000 Mbps -- Gigabit Ethernet, providing massive bandwidth capacity from a small number of fibers.

In tonight's presentation Ed will discuss the following issues: 1) PPL Telcom's network - what we thought in 1999, what we're thinking now. 2) What are the support issues, growth issues, 3) Where are the trends taking us?

Ed Brignole has been the Director of Business Services at PPL Telcom since its inception in 1999 and is primarily responsible for business systems and processes. One recent assignment has been the deployment of an operations support system used for managing Telcom's provisioning processes and engineering records. Ed has more than 35 years experience with PPL from construction, sales and marketing, planning and management. Ed has a BSME from Clarkson University and an MBA from University of Phoenix and is a licensed Professional Engineer. ____________________________________________________________________________________
