Here is a rough summary:
Banks' desire to achieve the benefits of collaboration - which include efficiency, responsiveness, consistency, accountability and enhanced employee and customer experiences - is not a new trend. But in today's high stakes financial services environment, effective collaboration has become a competitive necessity. Whether it's improving speed-to-market with more targeted product development, cross-selling high-value retail and corporate customers, assessing risks more accurately, or managing vendor relationships, banks need to get the most out of their human resources, at all levels and in all functions - across IT and all lines-of-business.
Until recently, even if management recognized and supported the benefits of collaboration, technology - or rather, a lack of it - was a significant impediment to true collaboration. IT staff and other professionals in different locations couldn't count on communicating in a secure and reliable, real-time fashion. Also, it has been extremely difficult and cumbersome for people across the enterprise to access and share critical information. So, real collaboration remained a lofty goal.
But the situation has changed. For one thing, as financial services competition intensifies the need for banks to engage in secure, real-time collaboration has never been more critical. Furthermore, there now are real, proven and cost-effective technology solutions that can deliver and support collaboration and secure communications among executives and end-users throughout the banking enterprise.
