Flip MinoHD
That’s a Flip MinoHD and a red Gorillapod in case you don’t recognise them. I made a little test video of me making coffee. The coffee turned out to be a disaster (note the tone of disappointment) because I’d left the group in the machine for hours – muppet.
The video has been transcoded and compressed from 146MB to 24MB in the process so the original quality is significantly better but it gives you an idea of the capabilities of this little unit. I’m particularly impressed with the microphone which is often a problem on this type of camera and as there’s no option to use an external mic, you’re stuck with it.
I can’t claim any great expertise in the domain of miniature HD cameras but I did borrow Marc’s Kodak Zi6 and I have to say the Flip wins on a couple of counts. Firstly size – it’s tiny even compared to the Kodak which isn’t exactly a monster but for me the Flip is comfier to hold and easier to find a slot in the bag. Secondly, I don’t need to install Quicktime to use the Flip as I did for the Kodak.
Quality-wise I’ve not done a direct comparison (though others have) but it seems excellent. The MinoHD is a fantastic bit of kit.

Throw in one of these too: http://tinyurl.com/3mmpro110 and you have a home cinema to watch it on! We used a gorillapod with one of these tiny projectors and a portable dvd player to keep the kids entertained in the evening at center parcs last week - fantastic!Anonymous

Hi Mike, please take a look at the link to the video (not working for me on Win7 build 7000/IE8). I'm really keen to get one of these myself so very interested in the quality that can be achieved! Cheers NickAnonymous

Hi Nick. Sorry about that. I had to guess the Live Search URL as I was in the office (and Live Search requests are currently being hijacked internally for testing purposes). Should be fixed now. Mike
