Going Live - Microsoft CRM Live that is...
So yesterday’s big announcement in case you missed it was that Microsoft announced Microsoft CRM Live. You can read all of the Key Note Address with the release of it here. (Or you can watch it on the right hand side of the screen.) The full press release is here.
There are some cool points that where in there as well… Over 50,000 users where added in Q4 for us. Which is more than any other CRM vendor out there that I am aware of. (And more than sfdc has EVER added in a quarter. )
The one thing that worried me about the Live offerings is that of partner compensation. And the cool thing is that we were told that partners will be compensated consistent with how they are today. Which means that you as a partner can and will be compensated regardless of the choices our joint customers make. (Which in my mind is AWESOME.)
Visit www.CRMLive.com for a newsletter with updates, etc. for more information.

With the announcement of CRM Live, the first question that comes to mind is how can VARs and SMB partners with CRM competency make money or compete with CRM Live. With Microsoft own hosting, wouldn't CRM Live be the easiest and cheapest way to get up and running? How can CRM VARs be profitable? Is there any reason for a MBS partner whose focus is in the SMB sector to develop the CRM competency in this situation? It appears that there are less and less reasons for in-house CRM deployments in the SMB sector. Ben, your take on it will be appreciated. - Anonymous

Max,
The goal is not for them to compete.
We will be paying margin to partners for customers on Live. Which makes me VERY happy. (And should you as well.)
I do think that there is a HUGE potential for inhouse deployments, this is just one more choice that customers can take advantage of.
If you are in the business of just installing Microsoft CRM with no business consulting or customizations, than in my opinion this will hurt you, but for 99% of my partners this will be nothing but good things. :-)
In the mean time, you can sell CRM today and sell it hosted through our hosting partners who also pay margins.
HTH
Ben
