Process Explorer v11.0 Released

A new version of Process Explorer was released today!

If you do not already have it, I highly suggest that you download it and use it.  It is an amazing tool, basically Task Manager on steroids.  You can find just about every conceivable bit of information about any process running on your computer.  This is a must have for every Windows developer.  Have you ever wanted to know what dll's a process is using?  What files are open by a given process?  What services are running under all of those svchost instances?  Process Explorer will give you all of that information.

And possibly the coolest feature of PE is that you can select a menu option (Options->Replace Task Manager) to replace your generic Windows Task Manager with PE so that it runs in place of Task Manager.

New features that I like:

  • Thread IDs on threads tab
  • /e to launch elevated
  • /s switch to select a process at startup
  • Show details for all processes elevation menu item on Vista
