Project Glidepath Early Access Program Announcement/Invitation
UPDATE 2: We will be supporting VB.NET for Project Glidepath. Content with VB.NET examples will be available in the next few weeks.
If you are a VB.NET developer we also welcome you to submit your application to participate in the EAP.
We have received a number of very interesting applications and are evaluating them in the next week to choose the final group. If you would like to be considered please read the post and send the requested email.
I’m looking for a small (~10) group of developers who are interested in building or upgrading applications in C# or VB.NET for Windows Vista (and .NET 3.0 so they can run on XP as well) in exchange for both early access to technology and personalized support and technical assistance.
Your participation can be in the form of either (a) an upgrade of an existing application or (b) a wholly new application.
Participant need to be willing to commit:
1. To commit ship your application within 90 days of Windows Vista retail availability (anticipated in January 2007).
2. To use C# or VB.NET and Project Glidepath tools and technology as you build and/or upgrade your application.
3. To build your application so that it uses either features specific to Windows Vista (Sidebar, P2P, Aero, Search, etc.) or makes use of .Net 3.0 (WPF, WCF, WF, CardSpace) to that it runs on both Vista and XP.
4. To allow Microsoft to promote your application and company via press releases, case studies, etc. once your product is shipped.
Microsoft will commit:
1. To provide early access to updated builds of Windows Vista and related technologies.
2. To provide a copy of Visual Studio 2005 if you don't already have one.
3. To have regular conference calls and a private forum to allow participants to share information.
4. To provide direct technical support (limit 25 hours) over the course of the EAP.
In summary, if you are willing to agree to build and/or upgrade an application for Windows Vista and/or .NET 3.0, and help us with publicizing your work when you ship, we will provide technical support, early access to software and personal assistance to make sure you have what you need.
The EAP is currently scheduled to start July 24, 2006.

Hi,
my current plan is to ship my product exactly in the timeframe you mentioned - some time after Vista launches. The product will use .NET 3.0 features, for now for sure WPF, maybe pieces of WCF. It is P2P application, but will not use Vista's P2P features.
Now, the $1M question is - why do I have to use Project Glidepath? Why not just let me use .NET 3.0 technologies however I see fit? - Anonymous

Why can't Microsoft provide resources to port Glidepath to VB.NET? There are many VB.NET developers who would love to participate. - Anonymous

We do listen... and we are going to port the content to VB.Net. The VB content should be ready in a couple of weeks. Stay tuned to Project Glidepath blog http://www.projectglidepath.net/blog for an announcement.

You certainly don't have to use Project Glidepath to develop for Windows Vista. Project Glidepath is just designed to help you do it faster and easier.
