New to SharePoint? Where to start?
From time to time I get asked from partners and customers, that are new to SharePoint, about where to start learning SharePoint. I will try asking this question by offering some good links to check out. These will mainly be targeted to somewhat technical persons (both developers and IT Pro). OK - there are two links for end users as well...
First of familiarize yourself with SharePoint by browsing information on OfficeOnline (product guides, trial downloads, etc) , next watch some webcasts or even better try out virtual labs for real hands-on experience. For the ones that like e-Learning or classroom learning there are some courses (see below). You should watch both the SharePoint product blog and Joel Oleson's blog. There you will find many Best Practices and other goodies. If you are able to attend a conference like TechEd or the SharePoint Conference I would recommend that.
Certifications is a good target for learning, plus it will document your competency. You will find certifications for WSS v3 and MOSS 2007 for both developers and IT Pro (See below).
(WSS = Windows SharePoint Services and MOSS = Microsoft Office SharePoint Server. Learn them, because you will see them a lot :-)
