Infrastructure Optimisation - Implementation Guides
Infrastructure Optimization (IO) serves as a gauge for IT organizations and provides a logical roadmap to progress from reactive to proactive IT service management. Essentially it is a framework to drive maturity in technology solutions and in the management/operations of these solutions. There's plenty to read about this at www.microsoft.com/io.
The first thing you'll need to do is assess where you currently are in the framework - there is a questionnaire on the previous link to help you do this. You then need to figure out where you want to get to in the framework - this could be constrained by resources, budget, or workload so it is important to be realistic about the goal.
If you work in IT infrastructure, there are implementation guides to help you move along the model using technologies such as Active Directory, Operations Manager, SMS, and Windows Server. The chances are you already have a lot of this technology in place - these guides are a great resource to help you get more value out of your existing environment, and free up your time to do more interesting things than dealing with repetitive support calls.
