Great document. The question of the day is - "Would I use the CS2007 profile for storing my user information or should I use the Sharepoint User Profile in a MOSS/CS integrated environment?" This, of course, would apply to extranet sites. I would want to take advantage of CS 2007's targeting capabilities, so I guess I would have to use CS's targeting. Is there a way to make MOSS use the CS2007 profile store (or better yet, can MOSS use the ASP.NET Profile Provider model)?Anonymous

If you are using MOSS for content management and going to target users for personalization then I would recommend using CS2007 profile system. Commerce Server had a .NET membership provider. CS profiles can get aggregated using other stores you might want to look into that. Good luck, -MaxAnonymous

Hi Max, Does Personalization features of MOSS work seamlessly even when I use UpmMembershipProvider so that User Profiles are stored in CS 2007 and not in MOSS? Any links/articles that talk about the same would be great help. Additionally, I have read that the default value for the number of Profile Context objects on CS 2007 is 100. Considering the situation in which my site users count will go in millions then is there any issue? Thanks.Anonymous

I have explored more and I guess there should not be any issues with the queries I posted. Does anyone see any issues? ThanksAnonymous

Hi Rishabh, As for the profile context you only need one. Commerce Server creates only one Context inside of ASP.NET context to create user and other profiles. As for the number of profiles you can have as many as you want. I have heard that there are customers who have 60 million profiles; we internally tested with 40 million. I am not too sure about the MOSS and CS membership provider, but reading some articles on MSDN it is possible to have two membership providers. Again I have not tested this scenario so I am not sure how it would work. -MaxAnonymous

Hi Max, curently am using Aspnetmembershipprovider and AspnetRoleProvider for MOSS Forms Authentication.I have number of users configured in default db 'aspnetdb'. Is is possible to use Existing membership providers than using Commerce server Profile Provider. Thanks, Krishna PriyaAnonymous

Yes you can run your own provider but what you will lose is the targeting of the Marketing System when you create an Ad or Discount targeting a user profile object. You can get around this but you have to write code. You can still create Ads and Discounts but just not integrate the targeting feature of the Marketing System. The Commerce Server Systems are modular but if you decide not to use any of them just make sure you realize what features you lose in other systems. -MaxAnonymous

Well that's a broad topic what exactly are you looking for. I mean it's doable but how do you want to use MOSS with CS2002. I am sure it can be done. -MaxAnonymous
