The long awaited standalone SkyDrive Pro sync client has just been released!

The standalone SkyDrive Pro sync client allows users of SharePoint 2013 and SharePoint Online in Office 365 to sync their personal SkyDrive Pro and any SharePoint 2013 or Office 365 team site document libraries to their local machine for access to important content on and offline.

Until the release of the standalone version you would need an installed Office 365 Pro Plus, Office 365 Small Business Premium, or Office Professional Plus 2013 client on your PC in order to be able to sync SharePoint files to your desktop.

The SkyDrive Pro client can be installed side-by-side with previous versions of Office (Office 2010, Office 2007, etc)

    okay... One of the issues with WEBDAV was security. Ans now we let files stay resident on a persons computer? Do I miss something?

    The problem with skydrive is that it doesnt allow realtime online access!  I dont want offline files, I just want an easy quick way to access files through windows explorer...

    Are they fixing this yet? I don't want to sync data onto local hard drives... This makes Sharepoint libraries useless to me.

    Same remarks: 100 users on a Remote Desktop environment who needs to access a 10Gb Sharepoint Online Library from Windows Explorer (more easy to use). It means, if we use OneDrive for Business sync, that we will have 1 Tb of offlines files on the server ? I can not image that...

    After speaking with Microsoft there is no fix for using office 365 as a file share. As you know, using skydrive/onedrive is not a good solution as it syncs the ENTIRE library to the users PC. This is great for 3 users, it is not practical for large companies. There is no system to selectively sync data. So if your computer has say 10GB free and the library is 11GB, it will sync, fill your drive and never sync again until you clear up some space. The mapping of a WEBDAV folder to sharepoint should fix this, however the process of mapping a drive is cumbersome and 95% of the time does not work.

    Overall, the organizations i have worked with are extremely disappointed with everything but exchange online. E1 is awesome, Sharepoint, Onedrive and everything else (including office 2013 click-to-run) are not enterprise ready. [FYI, my gripes with click to run are the constant nagging to log in and the inability to license it to a MACHINE, meaning a shared kiosk pc will require EACH USER to log into office and license it causing a huge amount of confusion.]
