Notice the password expiration notification

The Microsoft Office 365 Sign-In Assistant application will display a notification bubble in the Windows tray when the Office 365 password is about to expire.

The default duration of the notification bubble is five seconds. If you need to modify the duration (e.g. to increase the chance of the user noticing the notification) you can add a key to the registry or change a setting in the Control Panel.

Method 1: Add a key to the Registry

  1. Open Microsoft Registry editor by typing "regedit" in the search area
  2. Browse to the registry key "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\TrayNotify"
  3. Right-click in the entry area and select "New" and "DWORD (32-Bit) Value"
  4. Enter the name "Balloontip"
  5. Enter the hexadecimal value for how many seconds you wish balloon tips to be displayed. For example, displaying a balloon tip for 12 seconds would require a DWORD value of "C" (0x0000000c)

Method 2: Change setting in Control Panel

  1. Open the Control Panel
  2. Click "Ease of Access"
  3. Click "Ease of Access Center"
  4. Click "Make it easier to focus on tasks" at the very end of the page
  5. Scroll to the section "Adjust time limits and flashing visuals"
  6. Click the button under "How long should Windows notification dialog boxes stay open?" and pick the desired duration, eg. 15 seconds

    In this article the concept is very clear and helpful. It provides good information to active directory password expiration email notification but I used this automate tool (http://www.lepide.com/user-password-expiration-reminder/ ) that allows to notify users via Email when their password expire and schedule automatically notify users through Email about their password expiry and get the status reports in HTML , CSV, and in PDF format on users whose AD password is soon to expire .
