The Knowledge Network for Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 Technical Preview is now officially closed.

Well the time has come to bring our Knowledge Network Technical Preview to a close. We thank all of you who tried it out and provided us with great feedback and accolades. It is rewarding to work so hard on something and to see the fantastic results that we achieved. As a result the next generation of Microsoft Office SharePoint Server (MOSS) will reap the benefits. So if you are a KN fan rest assured that your passion for Social Networking has had an impact on future releases of MOSS. It has been a pleasure and honor to work with and for you on this Technical Preview and we look forward to your continued support in the next release of the Microsoft Office System. To check on the progress of the future of MOSS, visit our SharePoint webpage https://www.microsoft.com/sharepoint/default.mspx. Thanks again for all of your support.

Based on this statement, It looks like the RC0 will not become an RTW but rather will be rolled up into the next Release of MOSS - is this correct? I was under the impression that it would be released as an RTW - I have a major bank in Australia waiting on the RTW so they can roll it out across their 15000 staff as part of their Sharepoint implementation. I'm also giving a demo of the KN in July at a SharePoint User group. Based on your response, I may have to cancel that presentation.

I have the same comment as Brad. I was under the impression that KN will go RTW, but reading this post gives me the impression that no further releases are plannend and, as Brad also suspects, will be included in the next release. As Brad, my customer is very interested in KN and would have great benefits from this Add-on to MOSS. Could you guys shed some light on this?

The original plan was bring Knowledge Network out as a v1 product but as it got closer to release and MOSS was getting ready to ship there were some very legitimate reasons to release KN as a Technical Preview.  And that's what we did.  Technical Previews are unsupported but we run them to gather usage patterns and feedback.  And because they are unsupported we do not recommend companies deploying the technology on a broad scale.  The reason is simple, we want our customers to have a great experience with our software and without support we cannot guarantee that.  The Technical Preview phase is now closed.  The good news is that because of the feedback that we gathered during the Technical Preview we are planning to bring the KN functionality into future releases of MOSS so stay tuned to what they are doing.  http://www.microsoft.com/sharepoint/default.mspx

I like the idea of rolling this into WSS or MOSS as a feature.  MOSS means it will be part of the more costly version of SharePoint, but, It will also be part of that supported product. Thanks to the KN team.

Can you let me know when the official release will be - rough timescales i.e Q1 2008 etc...   We are about to start our implementation of MOSS on a global scale and this extra tool would be invaluable.
