SDK Workaround: Guidgen.exe fails to execute

This workaround applies to:

 

·         The prerelease Windows SDK for Windows Server 2008 and .Net Framework 3.5 (RC0), September, 2007

·         The prerelease Windows SDK for Windows Server 2008 and .Net Framework 3.5 (IDS04), July, 2007

 

Guidgen.exe fails with the following error:

System.ComponentModel.Win32Exception: The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect.

Workaround: use the tool Uuidgen.exe to generate GUIDs from the command prompt. Run the following command:

%ProgramFiles%\Microsoft SDKs\Windows\v6.1\bin\Uuidgen.exe

 For help with this tool, type: uuidgen.gen /?
