MSDN Code Gallery & the Windows SDK
The MSDN Code Gallery was launched today by Soma Somasegar. The developer community has made “more samples!” one of its top requests, and DevDiv is delivering. This new developer portal is a quick place to get (and share) code snippets, samples, sample applications, and other great resources. Lots of cool features are already live - pages that describe samples, supporting docs with screenshots, design documents, tagging, great help resources, and easy-to-use upload/download tools.
The Windows SDK team plans to post some of the SDK samples to Code Gallery. We’re working with the Code Gallery team and SDK contributors to implement features that make it easy for SDK customers to find the samples they need. We want to hear from our users. What’s important to you? Are you looking for native or managed code samples?
- What SDK samples do you think should be ported to Code Gallery?
- Should only “release quality” samples be included?
- How should customers be informed that this content is Microsoft release quality? (Administrator level tags? Note on the sample resource page?)
- Should the SDK team keep these samples at release quality as new technology is released, or let them move to some sort of “Windows SDK deprecated” state?
- Does the Ms-PL license on Code Gallery work for you?
The MSDN Code Gallery is open to everyone to contribute and I expect it to explode with samples for all types of developers over the next few months. So if you don’t see the content you need now, check back in a few weeks. The site has only been live one day.
