An inconvenient truth: screensavers are bad for the environment

Turn off those Electric Sheep.  The National Renewable Energy Laboratory list of green tips includes a good reminder: don't use a screen saver. They’re old technology and NREL says they use power and can prevent the hard drive from going fully into power saving mode. Can’t live without one? Shiny Shiny  recommends you use your spare computer cycles to further the study of climate change.  And turn off the stuff in your office when you go home!
