Some reviews

I’ll post more later, but for now, here are a couple reviews of Windows XP SP2 Beta, that discuss some of the new Wireless UI that I’ve been working on for the past year. Check them out at Ars Technica and SecurityPipeline.

Oh, and actually, I'm deeply hurt that Paul Thurott didn't notice any of the new wireless UI for his screenshot collection at the Windows Supersite.

I'm looking forward to SP2 a lot. I really like the really nice improvements to the ICF and mostly i like the addded per-application firewall control.

I've heard from testers that the biggest IE bugs won't be fixed! This makes me rather sad since IE can't display PNG's correctly and has a lot to go to finish implementing CSS 2.0. These are rather big bugs in my opinion, and i find it strange that they since they're adding pop-up blocking and plug-in management that they don't fix these bugs while they're at it. I find this very weird, especially since the .NET team is making ASP.NET 2.0 output standardized XHTML and depend a lot on stylesheets. What's the use if most of the world can't enjoy them fully in IE? Any way to get this message through to the IE team (i haven't seen anyone of them blogging, and they don't seem to answer the IE6 newsgroups)?

Aside from that minor rant, MS did a great overall job on this service pack. As i said, i'm really looking forward to it!

Are there any improvements to the Connection code for XP SP2? for instance, XP sometimes grabs some random AccessPoint but shows I'm connected to MSFTWLAN when I'm so not ;-).

The new UI is great though.

A shame for Paul Thurrot's WinSupersite that there ain't any pictures of the new Wireless UI. Makes me wonder what other nice things he forgets...

The new UI (or should I write UX? :)) seems much nicer and easier to use then the previous.

But I agree with Security Pipeline that it would be nice to see the signal-strength for different access-points with the same SSID.

Omar - in the next SP2 release, there are a lot of changes to the connection status code. Check it out.
