The Windows SDK is now live for the January CTP

The Windows SDK is now live for the January CTP!

This release is intended to target the WinFX Runtime Components January CTP release (links below). There is no January CTP for Windows Vista, but this SDK will work on the December CTP version of Vista. To do so, you need to uninstall the December WinFX components from Vista and install the January WinFX components.

Download Center: Windows SDK

Some notes:

  • Monad (Microsoft Command Shell) and the Compact Framework are currently installed by default by the SDK (when custom install is working you will have the option to turn them off). If you have a previous version of the Windows SDK installed, not only do you need to uninstall the SDK, you need to uninstall the Monad and CF bits as well… You may experience SDK setup errors if previous versions of these bits are available on your machine…
  • Custom install and the granular web download are still not available. We hope to have this working by Feb CTP.
  • The release continues to be a 1.2 gig DVD image download.
  • .NET Framework 2.0 is a prereq for the SDK now (we are using DExplore 8.0, which requires 2.0)
  • This release will throw more verbose and actionable errors in setup to help diagnose install problems.

Next stop: February CTP

The Feb CTP will be for both WinFX and Win32 targeting the Feb CTP of Windows Vista.

Good ol' Document Explorer 8.0. On my 2 GHz machine, it takes about 10 seconds for it to open up the documentation for the .NET 2.0 SDK. :)
