[ENG] How to redirect OpsMgr traffic to a specific NIC

Summary
  • In this post, we will document the steps to take to use a specific network card to redirect OpsMgr traffic
More Information
  • By default the network card that is associated with the FQDN is the one used by OpsMgr. There are cases where there are multiple network cards and the "production" traffic must be sent over the default NIC, but OpsMgr traffic must be sent on another network card.
  • For example:
    • Your RMS has the fqdn rms.contoso.com and IP in DNS is x.x.x.x, and you need to use the IP on the y.y.y.y segment.
    • The agent has the fqdn agent.contoso.com and IP in DNS is x.x.x.x, and also you need to use the IP address on the y.y.y.y segment
    • The workaround for OpsMgr SP1/R2 is to force name resolution to the y.y.y.y network segment using an entry in the HOSTS file that will resolve rms.contoso.com to y.y.y.y and also resolve your agent to the y.y.y.y segment.
