How Microsoft uses MOM

If you haven't been reading the MS.COM operation tools team weblog, you've missed a five-part series of posts on “The Collector Conundrum”. It's a very frank view of MOM from down in the trenches…

  • Part I - “what will we use to collect these counters and events, sort them, store them, manage them, route them and report on them?”
  • Part II - “the experience of working with (often around) MOM is like taunting the Marquis De Sade”
  • Part III - “if you thought the material portion of the TOC was getting expensive, wait until you try managing MOM”
  • Part IV - “there are painful points in the MOM architecture … but many of the underlying elements are pure gold”
  • Part V - “a peek into the future of MOM and … some other collection options”

Thanks Johnathan. I appreciate you pointing people toward us. As time goes on, we plan on a lot of these sorts of assessments as well as helping people to learn from many of the experiences we have encountered running a site the size of MS.COM.
