Summary:
This two day technical briefing explores an emerging category of applications, known as Office Business Applications (OBA). It explores the technologies that underpin them, in particular Microsoft Office 2007, Windows SharePoint Services, Microsoft Office SharePoint Services, and Open XML.
Intended Audience:
This session is for ISVs and Microsoft partners, is aimed at Architects, Developers, and System Designers.
Prerequisites:
Familiarity with programming and the .NET framework is highly desirable to obtain the most from this event.
Agenda:
Office Business Applications (OBA) is a new, and important emerging category of business application, and its focus is on using Microsoft Office and SharePoint as a front end to line of business (LOB) applications and other backend systems. It’s not about replacing existing custom user interfaces, but about offering users an additional way to interact with those systems, giving them the information they need, where they need it. By using the familiar Microsoft Office and SharePoint interfaces to connect people to applications, Office Business Applications reduces the user learning curve, provides wider access to enterprise information, resulting in greater user adoption, increased policy compliance, improved decision making, and saving time and money. Examples of existing Office Business Applications include SAP Duet (https://www.sap.com/solutions/duet/index.epx) and Microsoft Office PerformancePoint Server 2007 (https://office.microsoft.com/en-us/performancepoint/FX101680481033.aspx)
The agenda for the two days are:
Understanding Office Business Applications
Integrating Business Data with Office Documents using Open XML File Formats
Integrating Business Data with Office Documents using Fluent UI Extensibility
The SharePoint Web Site and Security Framework
Defining Business Process and Workflows
Business Entity Integration with the Business Data Catalog
Enterprise Search
Building Reporting, Analytics, and Dashboards with Excel Services and Report Center
These briefings are run in a small informal environment, typically no more than 30 attendees, where partners can ask questions and discuss issues. Attendees are welcome to bring a laptop along. This two-day course is run as a seminar, and the labs will be provided as a take-away to allow you to go through them in their own time.
