Microsoft Office Live Seminar: Steve Smith presents, “The 'egonomics' of leadership”
Technorati tags: Ego, LiveMeeting, Egonomics
Ego is the invisible line item on every company's profit and loss statement. And because ego's subtly out of sight on the P&L, that's precisely why for decades, if not centuries, we've become no better-and maybe no worse-at managing the most pervasive, powerful force inside every person in every company. On the profit side, ego sparks the drive to invent and achieve, the nerve to try something new, and the tenacity to conquer adversities that inevitably come. Surprising as it may sound, many people don't have enough ego, and that leads to insecurity, hollow participation, and apathy that paralyze cultures and leaders. But when that intense, persistent force inside manages us, companies suffer real economic losses. Half of all business people believe the negative effects of ego show up in their companies on a daily or weekly basis and cost their companies 6% to 15% of revenue. The question is-how will we know if it's an asset or a liability? That's what this presentation begins to answer. The author will cover three principles of egonomics that manage ego effectively: humility, curiosity, and veracity and a survey your company can take to see how you measure up.
