One of our partners in the UK, Core, has developed a useful little add in for SharePoint.

Extracts attachments from outgoing Outlook messages and saves them to a SharePoint Library with an access control list (ACL) of the recipients. Replaces the extracted attachment with a URL and password for external recipients.
Attachments Management for Outlook is an add-in for Microsoft Outlook 2007, Outlook 2003 and SharePoint 2003 and MOSS 2007.

The Attachments Processor for Outlook can:

  • automatically extract attachments from outgoing messages and save them to a SharePoint Library;
