It’s Back to the Future. Browser wars are so passé. Yet here we are. No so long ago, Netscape went head-to-head against Internet Explorer. Netscape lost. Not so long ago, Firefox went head-to-head against Internet Explorer. Firefox lost. Not so long ago, Safari even tried to say they were the fastest HTML rendering engine on the block. Safari lost.
Were I to theorize, it would be that Internet Explorer simply cannot lose. Right or wrong: lower-tech users (the majority) choose Windows because they trust Microsoft. They choose Office because they trust Microsoft. They choose Hotmail because they trust Microsoft. They will continue to choose Internet Explorer for the same reason – they trust Microsoft. And corporate networks choose Microsoft technologies over and over again because they can get support – and this is the game changer.
