Presenting Office UI Prodcasts

A couple of months ago I was interviewed by Shawn Murray, who is putting together a set of podcast-style interviews to help people learn more about Office 2007 and related products. These recordings are available as MP3 or Windows Media Audio (.wma) files and can be listened to on any computer or device.

Recently, Shawn publicly posted my two-part podcast (or "prodcast" as he calls it) for anyone to listen to, so if you have a few minutes and want to hear the story of the user interface in detail, check them out. In Part 1, I give a verbal account of some of the history outlined in my Why the UI? series of blog posts. Part 2 deals much more with the nuts-and-bolts of the new user interface itself.

The interview was totally off-the-cuff, unrehearsed, and over the phone, so apologies in advance if I ramble on at times.

Thanks to Shawn Murray for recording these and putting them up on his site--it looks like a great resource for Office enthusiasts on-the-go.

WMP, just typical. The no.1 software for podcasting is - guess what - iTunes, which can't play WMAs directly, it converts them to MP3s. Does MS have any intention of baking podcasting into WMP11, or is it not interesting in actually competing or something?

    .WMAs!??!

    Weak.

Love the theme of this site and the work you're doing, but I'm totally disinterested in this interview now.

    Kroc,
I am in the process of converting all my prodcast files to MP3's as well, based on similar feedback.  I've got to update all my posts to include both links so it may take me a few days.  So look for that in the next week or so.

    Thanks,
    Shawn

Update:  I've added the mp3 versions for Jensen's UI prodcast (part 1 and part 2) to the links provided above.  Hope you enjoy them.

I'll still be adding the rest of the mp3 versions over the next few days.

    Thanks again,
    Shawn

Many thanks Shawn! Great show, but because of the WMAs in the feed I can't subscribe in iTunes :( An alternative podcast client is not practical because: 1) I have 9 podcasts in iTunes already and they "just work" fine and 2) I'm on a Mac, and I manage all my media there. I dual boot or boot a VM to use Windows.

I updated the article to indicate that there are both MP3 and WMA versions of the interviews available.

Loved it. Alot of it I knew already from the blog, but I did learn some new stuff.
You talk about the new UI really well, both in your blog and in the interviews. Well done :)

Keep up the great work on Office 2007.
I have a question: When you hover over the font selection dropdown, the tooltip says "Font (Ctrl+Shift+F) Change the font face."

Shouldn't it be either just Font or Typeface?
