Kansas City SharePoint 2010 Conference Knowledge Gems
I’m attending the KC SharePoint 2010 Conference today… picking up a number of knowledge gems from the various presenters. The presenter from AvePoint is particularly good. For example, while discussing SharePoint 2007 to 2010 upgrades he mentioned that the free 30-day trial of DocAve Backup and Recovery can be used to quickly create a test lab that mirrors your current production environment. This way you can test various 2010 upgrade scenarios with very minimal lab build-out time. Obviously the hope is that you’ll fall in love with AvePoint’s software during this process… but that’s your choice.
One thing I didn’t know is that early SharePoint 2010 beta builds had a Site Recycle Bin. Unfortunately this feature was removed before RTM. AvePoint has a solution aptly named DocAve SiteBin for Microsoft SharePoint to provide similar functionality. If you prefer the “roll your own” approach you can also use PowerShell and stsadm. Heck, all this talk of SharePoint backup and recovery reminds me of an article I wrote for TechNet Magazine back in the day. Here’s a link for old-times sake. Man… those were the days.
If I pick up anything else today I’ll update this post accordingly. Thanks --Jeff
