iPhone 2.0 isn’t the big news…. iPod Touch 2.0 is?

image

With the launch of iPhone 2.0 on Friday I think that many people have missed one major component of this launch and that is that the Ipod Touch also contains the same software but without the mobile operator fees.

Why is this important – well I personally think this makes the Ipod Touch a viable PDA platform as well as a gaming device, music player and video device.

With all the focus on iPhone 2.0 I think many people have missed this..

Yes, but only if you have an accessible WiFi network. You lose all of the internet and email capabilities without it.

Well, I coughed up the $9.99 2.0 upgrade price for my iPod touch and then added to Apple's coffers by purchasing half-a-dozen apps from the App Store.

Agreed. I am pretty light in my use of phones in general. And my wife requires me to use Verizon (ughhh!). So, a real iPhone is not useful to me at this time in my life. In contrast, a "Touch" makes lots of sense.

I confess I was ashamed standing in a queue last Friday with a bunch of other people mostly nervously fiddling with their TyTn II handsets waiting for the O2 shop to open; there (ahem) to get an iPhone for the wife obviously. If you go back to the old PDA concept, why did they start integrating phones with the PDA? - who wants to carry a phone AND a Touch with them all the time? – especially if you don’t have to. Also, does the Touch have proper GPS built in? That and the 3G is what makes the iPhone desirable.

"contains the same software but without the mobile operator fees" and without a PHONE. arguably the most important part of the device. duh.

Yes that's the rub isn't it? The point of convergence is that you don't carry more than one device, so I don't see a big market for doing PIM and the like on the touch and also carrying a phone - because it's likely I'm going to want my PIM information in situations and contexts when I'm not going to be carry a touch. Interestingly, I had a few ipods but the device I use the most is the shuffle - I load it with music in the morning and it carries me through the day, no fuss, no messing with GUIs - just click and go.

They can also advise why Bradenton real estate and Sarasota real estate can be such a good investment. If youre looking for Florida real estate for Sarasota County or for Sarasota Bradenton real estate or a home in Sarasota, this is the right place.
