Software Assurance Benefit #1: Get a copy of Office to use at home

If you are like me, you spend practically all of your work day using Microsoft Office. Now you have the opportunity to take advantage of two programs that will help you get more out of the Office software you are using.

Today, we'll look at the first of these: the Home Use Program. Many organizations purchase Software Assurance (SA) with their software licenses from Microsoft. SA is a program that gives your organization new software versions when they are released, and includes a lot of benefits to help people like you get the most out of their software and keep your IT department up-to-date.

One of the greatest benefits of SA for you is the ability to get a copy of Office for your home computer. This is called the Home Use Program (HUP): For US $9.95 you can download your own copy of Office and use the same software at home that you are using at work. Check with your organization to verify that you have the ability to take advantage of this discounted offer.

Using the most current version of Microsoft Office will help you be more proficient at work by allowing you to get comfortable with the software at home. Also, if working from home is an option for you, having Office on your home computer can make you more productive.

As you are going through the process to download your copy, if you have any issues or questions, you don’t have to burden your own IT department. Microsoft handles all calls related to this program, so you can go directly to the source to get your questions answered.

In order to get your copy, your Software Assurance Benefits administrator—likely someone in your IT department—needs to activate this benefit. You might have already received an email about how to download your copy.
