Sick of hearing about Scoble

I'm sorry. I'm sure this is offensive to someone, but I am really sick of hearing about Robert Scoble. The whole tech blogging with insanely heavy doses of ego doesn't appeal to me. I've met him a couple times and he seemed nice enough but that doesn't come through in the me-me-me blogging style he invokes. Don't care where he works and not that worried that he got booted off of facebook. It's hard to read his opinion on things because it seems clouded by self interest.

Please, interwebs, enough of this!

Gotta say, as a long-time reader of his, I agree. I can only periodically read the blog anymore because of the constant barrage of posts about how this or that is going to be revolutionary (and everyone else will be left in the dust) because his family or Dave Winer thinks so ("Ask Dave Winer...ask my son...ask my wife...ask so-and-so who invented the widget"). Tired of hearing how many Facebook friends he has(had), how many Twitters (or Flutters, or Twinkles, or Fluffernutters) he gets in 5 minutes, and tired of the rants about how people should be fired because he doesn't like their work/philosophy. I wouldn't be tired of the subsequent mea culpas if there weren't part of the same cycle. I actually had a post to his blog similar to this but a bit more well-composed but I didn't submit it because it's just wasted keystrokes.

Well, I agree 100%, though your comments are more detailed than mine. I was more like "phhhht....done with that!". And frankly, I was done with it a long, long time ago when I unsubscribed. Just a little peeved that he creeped back onto my radar. Like I said, he could probably be a nice guy in person (so I have been told by someone who likes people different than I like, to be clear), but the public persona....yikes. Now all that's left is for him to link to stuff like this as a symbol of how important he is with a "heheheh" :) Gosh, I am bad today! Feeling really, super, ultra honest!

He lost me as a reader many months ago with precisely the things that Keith said. Blahblahblah if my son blahblahblah.. Another super egoistic fella is the "uber" geek (to himself) chris pirillo. Gosh... enough of him and his regular complaints about everything under the sun.

I'm sick of hearing about me too. I put this on my link blog. Thanks for the feedback!

Peter - it's like Britney (Brittney, Brittny....whatever) Spears. We keep paying attention so we are kind of at fault. Haha....fake Robert Scoble. Almost sound like him with the feedback thing.

I know. But just this once! It was either that or I was going to talk about Brit's parenting skills.

Wow, I thought I was the only one. When I first heard of him years ago, I thought "who is he, and why does he think he's better"? Never subsribed to his feed. Nice guy? Probably. Most people are. Do I care? Nah. :-)

I completely agree with you. I didn't post about scoble on my blog for fear he'd call me out on his blog and his band of merry commentors would attack my blog. You are brave.

Yeah, the fanboys can be mean. So far just one telling me I need professional help because I am glad the holidays are over. At least he identified himself as a fanboy, so it's all good. Guess I am not afraid of a little asshattery :)

Who is Mr. Scoble I have been to bussy earning a living to pay attention.  Ask most people who he is and you will get a reality check. John

Yeah, the thing is, I don't spend my time where most people spend their time. And where I do spend my time, I have to hear about him too much.

Oh, Scoble's alright. Meeting him at off-the-grid camp in Montana, he showed himself to be genuinely generous and supportive of others. People who are in the middle of a lot of things typically get there by talking a lot, which, I readily admit, can get tiresome. But I enjoy following him 'cause it gives me glimpses into a lot of interesting things and people my more introverted self would be less likely to discover on my own. -Aaron

Aaron - like I said, I am sure he's a nice guy. Doesn't change what bugs me though. To each his/her own. Scott - well, I am annoyed by Brit too. Sometimes it encroaches on your senses regardless of your attemtps to shut it out. I had done a good job until I went to Valleywag for something else and saw what passed for news. I don't blame Valleywag of course. They just cover what people will look at. I just don't want to look at it. See? That's the cool thing about blogging. We can disagree and it's fine. Strictly a matter of opinion.

I think it really is a preference. I like being able to establish/maintain relationships via blogs, twitter, etc. People who are willing to talk about what is going on in their life are easier keep up with. You can ask people to conform their writing to your preferences, but it might be easier just to find other people to read. Then again, what you are probably seeing right now is a bunch of people who normally do not talk about Scoble, but are right now because of what he did. The questions of privacy versus usability, ownership of intellectual property, and how open is open enough are important issues right now. The issues are much bigger than the person but he happened to hit right at the intersection of everything.

I don't have a problem with people sharing details about their lives. I would agree that it makes people easier to read, more interesting, etc.  I guess the thing for me is how it's done (the sharing). A little more humility would be nice, for one thing. It's a style issue. And then just the fact that some corners of the blogosphre have annointed him as some sort of icon. I don't get it. Anyway, you are right...it hit my radar this week and pushed a button for me. It's not keeping me up at night.

I've been Scobleized before (did you just make me say that Nige? Gawd!). OF COURSE he adds this to his link blog. He likes the buzz. I'll try to care about the traffic, really. I don't imagine that many of his readers would stick here anyway, so it's not a big deal. Anyway, you make a good point. There are 2 issues: one is the me-me-me style of his and the other is the fact that people fawn over him. Only one of those is his fault. I know other people that have an egocentric writing style but they are easier to ignore.

I think there's a new meme going around. I haven't found the announcement, but it has something to do with picking fights with A-list bloggers. I don't think it's going to spread, though—the participants keep forgetting to tag someone new...

Gee Heather, do you have to be so "angry all the time" wow, maybe you should think a little less of yourself Hmm, as I type this, those words seem ever so familiar to me..

KRM - I'm not angry at all. Unless by angry you mean that I have an opinion that differs from yours and the freedom to say it. And no, I don't want to think less of myself. Life is good. We should all feel good about ourselves. People who don't are the ones that need to change something. <sigh> another anonymous Scoble fanboy heard from
