Never vacation a day in your life

They say that if you find a job you love, you will never work a day in your life. That's bull, by the way. There's always more work than can reasonably be done and sometimes it can turn your love into a real drag. Sometimes it won't feel like work and sometimes it totally will. That is why we take vacations. But I'm not here to talk about that, I'm here to talk about Neil.

Neil's one of my colleagues at Microsoft; he's the director for one of our staffing groups. I worked with Neil a while back when we were both part of the same organization. What can I tell you about Neil except that he's Welsh and he's what I would describe as a "guy's guy" (notice the rugby shirt....that's rugby, right?) with a wicked sense of humor. I'm also pretty sure that he had this coming to him when he went on vacation recently. I don't know why, but I know Neil, so I am pretty sure about that fact.

So they say that if you love your work you never work a day in your life. But "they" never said anything about sneaky co-workers that make you consider never taking a vacation day in your life.

Princess Brit Brit welcomes Neil back from vacation. Come in Neil. It smells like cotton candy in here. This is why...

<jumps up and down and claps like a giddy little girl></clap>

Hey look, Neil's face matches his office! It's a nice contrast with the green, Neil! What? That's not a vacation sunburn?

And in the interest of giving blame, uh I mean credit, where credit is due....

It's all their doing!  Nice work guys.

I wasn't there for the unveiling, but since I am a fan of Neil's, I take great pleasure in seeing it go down. In the Microsoft family, like in others, the teasing is a sign of respect and admiration. We wouldn't do it if we didn't care :)

Hmm, this is what Neil looks like when he's speechless (cue: rim shot).

Holy smokes! That is one amazing job of Office Demolition! Not only sets the bar higher at our company, gives us some nice ideas to work with. Neil could be the Happiest Girl in the Whole USA.

Tim - I'll make sure that Neil's team knows that coming from you, that is quite a compliment. I saw Neil at a meeting this week and he did confirm that there was no smell associated with the office unveiling. So if you did it, you could take it up a notch by having some of those sickly sweet vanilla and strawberry candles. Neil also told me that the office still looks like this. Seems that he is having a bit of a stand-off regarding who acknowledges they can't stand it first.

Oh my, Heather... Tim sent this to our whole office and I am truly in awe.  Wow.

It is a thing of beauty, isn't it? My director says she's glad she sits in North Carolina and I have to admit that having a team spread out of the US is a good thing! Oh yeah, and a lock on my office door ;)
