Giving the little guy a head start

I'm always a fan of the little guy (or gal)...the underdog...the *new* person trying to do something different, do something on their own...asking for advice before they ask for help. To that end, I'm going to point you to a new recruiting blog. It's new (oh yeah, I already said that)...there's not much there yet, but I like what I see so far (you know when someone asks for advice and they actually take it) . It's written by Tim Donnelly at Aquent in LA. What I like so far....since he's a third party recruiter he's taken the approach of highlighting top talent in addition to job openings...hello...brilliant! Because the blog is for candidates AND clients (pssstt.....the clients pay the bills, and the candidates are the "product" they market...so really who isn't a customer in that scenario?)

Also, he updates us on the food that is sitting by their printer. That's sufficiently cheeky for me. So far, so good.

I checked it out and love it so far. I'll be checking it often. Our free food at McGraw-Hill seems less than adequate compared to the chocolates from Paris - we will have to work on that!

Tim-I love that you capitalize "Talent"... you definitely have a great start to your blog.

Jonathan-I've heard of people using the internal blogs. We are very lucky to have a lot of internal collaboration tools here. Sometimes the challenge is picking the right one. Love the idea of blogs for team sharing (especially if the team is geographically dispersed).

Juliette-you get free food? Hey wait, I can't complain, we get free drinks (soda, juice, milk). But still, like you said, it's not the same as Parisian chocolates.

John-you were speaking metaphorically? All this talk of food. Are you asking if I share my "traffic" with other MS bloggers? Yes and no, but that's a great question. The most important thing for me is sharing what I think my readers are interested in. Since I'm not specifically targeting developers, etc., the bulk of the MS blogs probably won't resonate (just want to make sure that I keep the blog on topic) with my readers. I mean, I am sure there are some tech folks that read my blog for fun (humor me, OK?), but it's about marketing, finanace and recruiting (and random stuff I find amusing, most of which is not technical). There aren't a lot of Microsoft bloggers that are marketers. So I guess my thoughts around linking to other MS bloggers is that I do it when I find something interesting on their blog (I suspect that is the right filter since I'm all marketing and finanace and recruiting). Otherwise, people can go to the blog portal on Microsoft.com and browse through all of the blogs. Does that make sense? If people are finding things written by other MS bloggers that they think are relevant to my space, I would love to hear about it. The other thing is that my job is really about building community ourside of Microsoft. That's not to say I don't want to build internal relationships...just want to really focus on my external network. Anyway, that was a long-winded answer to a simple question ; )
