Where are all the ISV Developers?

Last week I was researching community events that are of interest to ISV developers on the East Coast. The first challenge that I experienced was how to distinguish ISV specific events from more general Software developer events? Well, after some research I realized that smaller ISVs are often using the category of MicroISV to describe themselves. Therefore I focused on searching for MicroISV using Live search. It turns out, many MicroISVs license their Software as Shareware.

This begged the question to explore, what actually is shareware again? It turns out that the definition of Shareware is fairly simple: Shareware is software that you can try it before buying it. Wow, I realized that my conception of Shareware was way off and I learned something new, that is good. But isn't almost all Software Shareware? Most Software products today have a trial period before having to buy the license for continued use. I guess the difference is that some companies use Shareware as a way of differentiation and others don't.

Well, after this little excursus I found very view events that are targeted to ISVs:

The next question I will have to explore is what are the events that really attract ISVs....... This will be part of my next posts :-)

In the meantime I will explore the OSIV organization further....... I just got my membership approved :-)
