Visual Basic and C# at the Crossroads -- Visual Studio Magazine

“At the time, Wiltamuth wrote, Microsoft wanted Visual Basic .NET to appeal to Visual Basic 6 developers focused on business- and data-centric applications, while C# targeted Java and C++ developers programming in the enterprise and for ISVs.”

I remember developer and organizing an MSDN Webcast mini-series called Modern Software Development in .NET using Visual Basic (February-May 2004) . This webcast mini series ran from February through May and helped VB6 developers to really take the deep dive into Visual Basic.NET. Dr. Hummel did a great job on that webcast mini-series and it really drove some big numbers back then and helped drive community and developer N-SAT for our MSDN Webcasts program. A lot of this is community driven, and I’m proud to say, that Microsoft had chosen to be heavily entrenched in the developer community to drive our product development decisions.
