Further to my earlier post on the Australian Broadband situation, seems like Telstra CEO Sol Trujillo agrees

Broadband is a disgrace but don't blame us: Telstra

Telstra CEO Sol Trujillo said today he agrees with media mogul Rupert Murdoch that Australia's access to high-speed broadband is a disgrace.

So, that begs the bigger questions - who is responsible and who should fix it?

  I think the answer to that is the same as any other service or product. If there is enough demand, a competitive market will fix the problem. All the government has to do is set the conditions for competition -- and if you look at the growth of competition in the Australian telco scene since it was deregulated, I think you can safely say the govt is doing a good job.   Sadly, I think that's a question that will go unresolved for some time, as everyones position will be "it's someone else's responsibility". Yesterday's wifi news created an exciting moment (Wollongong to?! yeay), just one, before I realised it's not going to happen, at least not in that time frame and/or for free. I'll probably move on while all the squabbling continues. I dream of going to work and live where internet speeds approach that of light (in comparison) but I don't want to move back after growing accustomed and feel as if I'm permanantly shaped in the ISP naughty corner. Of course it could be worse - dialup anyone? I think I'll stay and cheer on ADSL2 in ignorant bliss instead (:
