REDMOND, Wash. (Reuters) — Microsoft said Thursday that it would make key technology elements of some of its best-selling software widely available to increase interoperability with its competitors and customers.

    Netscape does Netscape Browser... makes a truck load of money... Microsoft makes IE in the name of competition... kills Netscape Sun does Java... in the name of OS independent development... Microsoft makes Java++... kills broad Java success Open Source embraced by Web 2.0... find broad adoption... Microsoft scream me too and releases some vague Open Source concessions... Open Source still rules Web 2.0 Google does Search (plus adds)... makes so much money Microsoft gets scared... Microsoft buys a number of search and add companies for too much money... people still use Google which in turns makes even more money. Google opens up it's applications across the web to other web applications... Now Microsoft gets really scared and for some reason thinks it can fool people with some half hearted attempt at doing the same with it's own applications... ... it is only me or does it seem like the current management of Microsoft seems to have very little idea as to what they are doing. If it wasn't for the cash cow called Office/ Windows Microsoft would be an insignificant company to be eventually swallowed up and spat out. It's sad to see that so many talented people work at Microsoft but they simply can't ship any products which are serious competition due to innovation. Windows Mobile? Please... it's be biggest disappointment. Vista? I eventually went back to WinXP because I got tired of waiting 30 seconds every time I wanted to copy a 100 kbyte document. Is there anything else they have done recently worth mentioning? The new Office 2007 UI... maybe worth a mention. But in the end I wouldn't invest my dollars into a company run by an irratic loney like Balmer. Sorry to say this... PS: please don't say IE 7... there are so many CSS issues with that browser it makes you wonder what all those developers in Redmond have been doing over the last few years since releasing IE 6.
