Looking back : How Did The Panel Go?

003 004

I didn't get a chance to write up about the panel session last night, so let's capture my thoughts and look back at how it went.

As we kicked off, the room was packed. I didn't know at the time, but there was a large queue of people outside who weren't able to get in - including Don Dodge. Jeremy Cath even tweeted the sad news

I introduced the panelists, with a snapshot of their own facebook profiles and then asked each panelist to give a background on themselves.

Then I threw it open to the audience for the first question! Talk about being a slacker ;) And that question went to Ewan Spence, from The Podcast Network. (Ewan was looking resplendant in his kilt!) The question "What technology would each panelist steal from the other?". Good question.

The discussion was healthy and rather than I describe it word for word, have a look at the video from Duncan Riley on TechCrunch : How Can You Make Money From Web 2.0? and yes, it's my first appearance on Techcrunch.

When we started, I didn't know if I could sustain the conversation for the scheduled 75 minutes - as it turned out, we went over time - turns out we had lots to say.

Big thanks to my panelists Bryan Biniak (CEO Jacked), Tim Kendall (Facebook), Loic Le Meur (CEO Seesmic) and Chris Saad (CEO Faraday Media).

After the session, I bumped into Robert Scoble, who had just arrived at MIX. As soon as we started to chat, he pulled out his phone and recorded an interview with Chris about the session, and I just had to join in!

During the evening, I kept bumping into folks who said they enjoyed the panel, so I think we hit the mark. One guy told me it was boring, because we didn't have lots of arguments - fair cop. I was also chastised from a group of folks from MySpace - they told me I had the wrong social network up on the panel. Nice to hear people wanting to be on the panel - mission accomplished!
