Hello Peter, You will have to right-click Add folders to add the content on the D: and E: drive to see them in the dvd gallery. John

Hello Walton, If Blu-ray isn't working you might not have any 3rd party playback applications. The following information is from MSDN: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb189523.aspx Windows Media Center supports HD DVD and Blu-ray Disc playback, as follows: When Windows Media Center is running full screen, Windows Media Center can start a third-party playback application when a HD DVD or Blu-ray Disc disc is inserted into the DVD drive. If Windows Media Center is not full screen when a disc is inserted, Windows auto-play manages the playback process. If an HD DVD or Blu-ray Disc disc is already in the DVD drive, Windows Media Center can start a third-party playback application if the user selects Play DVD from the Windows Media Center Start menu. Thanks, -brian

Hey Matt, Thank you for taking the time to post a comment. When you recreated the ShowGallery value did you create it as a REG_SZ? In addition, are any DVDs showing up from other watch folers? Thanks, -brian

Hello Bryan, Thank you for taking the time to post a comment. So the machine that is broken still shows "Play DVD" instead of "dvd library"? If you could provide the registry and a screen shot you can e-mail that information to me using bmahaf@microsoft.com. I want to make sure there isn't anything with our Fix it that could be improved so other users don't run into the same issue you have. Thanks, -brian

I have an interesting scenario. Two indential brand new HP machines with home premium. Both now have values of ShowGallery = Gallery. One changed from "Play" after running media center setup and the other changed from "Play" before running media center setup for the first time. There was only 3 or 4 registry values of which ShowGallery was one of them. The machine changed to Gallery after media center setup was run displays the DVD library and I was able to add folders to watch just fine. DVDs display and play. The machine changed to "Gallery" before media center setup was run for first tim will not display the DVD library. I was setting up new machines and thought I would just make the change before running media center for the first time but apparently there is a problem with the timing of this. I have rebooted and changed ShowGallery back to "Play" and run media center setup and then changed back to "Gallery" and rebootd again, but to no avail. Any suggestions? I have about 5 hours invested in setup of other software so would like to salvage this setup. I can provide the registry or screen shots if interested. Bryan

The "Fix It" only changes the option from "play dvd" to "dvd gallery".  You may still need to right click and Add Folders to see content.  Do you at least get "dvd gallery" within TV & Movies? John

John, Check the file types supported for your extender. I have not seen one yet that supports .vob files which is what DVD files are on disk. I have seen some work around projects whild researching this topic that allow DVDs to be streamed on an extender. Seems like a bit of work involved. http://blogs.msdn.com/andypennell/archive/2008/06/09/playing-ripped-dvds-with-media-center-extenders.aspx Bryan

Bryan's issue was also resolved by settting HideDVD to 0 under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionMedia CenterStart Menu

Hello Barron, Thank you for taking the time to post a comment. Can you open regedit and navigate to the following key? HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionMedia CenterStart Menu Check to see if there is a HideDVD value and if the value data is set to 1. If the value data for HideDVD is set to 1 then you have two options. One option would be to delete the HideDVD value. The other option would be to change the value data from 1 to 0. Thanks, -brian

This is a great idea, but unfortunately it did not work on one of my Vista Ultimates machines. It might be because I tried the registry tweak and changed the name of the ShowGallery to Gallery instead of changing the registry's value. So then I deleted the value and reentered it. Then the dvd library showed up, but i could not see any dvd's in the folder that I added to the watch list. I tried the fix on another Vista Ultimate machine and it worked fine. Is there a way to fix this by importing registry values from my computer that works? Or can I re-install media center?

Dear Sirs. I am running Vista Media Center within Vista Ultimate. My DVD’s are all stored on my hard discs for convenience, I have installed the fix KB 930526 which has identified the DVD’s on drive C: and plays them, however I have a D: and E: drive both of which are for DVD storage and the fix has failed to recognise these drives, is there a fix for this ? I look forward to your help and remain. Sincerely Peter Fordham

I am having the same problem as Bryan Guidizi.  I applied the fix after setting up Media Center and it does not change to DVD LIBRARY.  My registry setting has been saved as GALLERY.  Any help would be appreciated.   Thanks

Ok, here is a good question. I have gone through all the steps mentioned above and it shows up great. The problem is that when I added an extender to the media center pc, the DVD option doesn't show on the menu on the extender. Is there a fix for that?

On a fresh Vista Ultimate install, I am having the same issue as Joedy. I accidentalyran the FixIt before setting up Media Center the first time, and before I applied any updates. ShowGallery is set to Gallery correctly, and HideDVD was not present, though I added it and set it to 0 to test if that made a difference (it didn't). Any other suggestions? I am using this PC specifically for this purpose so it's important for me to get it working.

I ran the fix it for me, My Play DVD has become DVD Library, but when I add folders to watch it doesn't add anything. My DVDs are backed up as .iso, and are stored on an external HDD hooked to my computer. I am running Vista Ultimate 64-bit.

Your DVD's need to be ripped with a VOB files in order for the library to see them.  It does not recognize ISO's as Video Files

Here's a new one.  I change my Gallery key to "Gallery" and checked the hide dvd key, which was already "0."  The DVD library menu now shows up fine, but when I select it, I immediately get the error: Media Center has stopped working. This is before I even set the library to monitor any of my DVD folders.  Though, even after setting the folders, there's still the same issue.  As soon as I change the Gallery option back to "play" all is well again.  Vista Ultimate x64.  Any ideas? Thanks,

Worked for me! We should have a load of these Fix It apps for lots of Windows issues. Especially for Media Center Edition (sharing Recorded TV folders from other MCE PCs would be nice).

Has anyone enabled this feature on Windows 7 RC? None of the registry keys mentioned exist. I did find a mention of a built in DVD library menu but it must have been a previous build not 7100RC. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

I cannot see the Start Menu Option in my registry? I went to look for HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionMedia CenterStart Menu and I see only the following Capabilities Extensibility Media Folders MRU Settings I searched in each one of these including DVD Settings under Settings and still do not find the HideDVD option. I am running Vista 64 bit Please help. I can see the DVD library on my WMC but cannot see it on my Linksys DMA 2100 extender. I changed the value for Show Gallery to 'Gallery' and that is how I am able to see the DVD library option on my WMC on my PC. I thought what ever I see on my WMC I should see on my TV since the extender is simply extending my WMC on to my PC? What am I missing? Please help

I have a Dell inspirion 15R and it won't play my Blueray DVD.  What do I do to fix that?  It's supposed to be able to play it.  Normal DVD's play automacially in Window Media Player, this one wurred a few times and then fell silent and the Windows Media Player never opened.  I tried going throught the drive on my "computer" but that didn't work either.  Please help!  Or should I just call Dell?

Media Center in  <a href="www.windowsvistahelpnow.com/>Windows Vista</a>  has the capabilities of displaying and playing DVD content stored on your personal computer, however this feature is not enabled by default.. Enabling this feature is easy and can be done by simply modifying your registry..
