Hi Svg and Stephen, Thank you for taking the time to post the comments. I have taken your feedback and added it to our list to investigate for a future version of this fix. The Fix it provided for this problem only automates the workaround section of the Knowledge Base article. The fix for this problem was made in a hotfix which can be downloaded individually or as part of the latest service pack for Windows Vista. The hotfix can be downloaded by clicking on the "View and request hotfix downloads" at the top of the KB article (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929734) and the latest service pack for Vista can be downloaded from this KB article http://support.microsoft.com/kb/935791/. If you still experience the problems after the hotfix or service pack is installed, please let me know. Sincerely, MikeAnonymous

AMD Athlon 64x2 4600, 4GB 800 SDRAM, lots of free unfragmented disk space. Having been testing WL Messenger Beta I found myself in the position of having to do major uninstallation surgery on my SP3 XP Pro installation, finally having to remove all bits of my .NET upgrades from 1.0-3.5, and install all of them again, sometimes using the Windows Install Cleanup when Add-Remove wouldn't perform right. All seemed well until I left the machine for enough time for my monitor to turn off per apparent normal. Returning to my PC I found that my machine wouldn't come back from power-saving demi-slumber. The monitor (Viewsonic VX922) is hooked up to an Nvidia GeForce 8600 GT, and looked like it would try to come back, producing a very slight flicker on the blank screen, green light on the power indicator, then back to nothing and amber, over and over. In the process of re-upgrading .NET it needs to be said that only after the install of 3.5 did this occur. On the off chance BIOS had coughed up something I upgraded it without incident, and I removed and reinstalled the drivers for my motherboard, graphics card and monitor. No change. Blindly pressing Alt-Esc, U (Turn off computer), R (Restart) indeed produces a restart, but does not bring the monitor back. Doing a Shutdown in this way only brings things back on powerup if I've also physically turned off the monitor, or altogether removed power from it for a moment. In Display/Properties/Screen Saver I set it up for Blank Screen after 15 mins, but in Power Saving I set it to always be on. Presently this is the only way to prevent the loss of data by having to restart in the midst of whatever would have been on-screen if it was visible. While this is a workaround it is NOT a solution to what was apparently futzed with by the power-saving function. Kindly assist. Thanks!Anonymous

This fix is worthless. My new "Vista-compatible" Canon scanner's USB connection continues to disappear after sleep, forcing me to unplug it and plug it back in for Vista SP1 to see it. If I ask for the Device Manager to search for missing or new hardware after sleep, it is never found. The same things happen to a software-protection USB dongle. Software dongles are notorious for not working, so I discount it somewhat, but a Canon scanner? This is lamer than Windows Me...
