EduGeek Conference 2011 - Journey Inbound

Well it is that time of year again where us EduGeek's get together in Preston for a Day long conference and a drop of IT Networking. I must admit I do like being in Birmingham because it is pretty much the central location between where conferences take place weather they be up north a bit or down south a bit.

It takes me approximately 1hr 30 minutes to get to Preston on the Virgin Train which I must admit is not normally this busy and I have a nice gentleman sitting next to me whom keeps making random conversations although I am not sure if he has caught on yet that I am an IT Pro not a Historian! anyway...

I don't really have much to say at this point, but i will be updating later on with any events that have occurred between now and 11:59pm. :)

There is around 60 places at the conference this year which is hosted at University of Central Lancashire's Westleigh Conference Centre.

The Schedule for tomorrow appears to now be as follows:

  • Dell (courtesy of Joskos) - Demonstrating the Dell Kace automation system
  • Lancaster University Network Services - Schools and independent internet connections
  • Rick Byers - The Data Protection Act - Myths and Musts
  • Adobe - Adobe products and support
  • AEG - UPS and power management
  • SmoothWall - Netcap

and the products that are on exhibition are:

ICT-Direct
SmoothWall
Joskos/Dell
Meru
Net-Ctrl
LUNS
Adobe
Invictus Technology/Zybert Computing

The conference will be streamed through-out the day on the internet using Adobe Connect.

As per every year, most edugeek members will be staying in the following hotel: https://www.ibishotel.com/gb/hotel-3162-ibis-preston-north/index.shtml

This just makes things easier for us to all meet together, make plans for the social fun! and all be in one place so no geek can get lost! :D

I'll update with more info later, I am enjoying my train journey and will be arriving at Preston Train Station at Approx 15:50.

James.
