Document Attach in Dynamics GP 2013 - A Sneak Peek!

Sivakumar Venkataraman - Click for blog homepageThe Document Attach (or) DocAttach (as it is commonly called) is a new functionality which has been added with Dynamics GP 2013.

This functionality provides similar functionalities as the OLE Note attachments in the earlier versions of Dynamics GP, however with some key enhancements. Some of them have been listed below.

  • It supports both 32 bit and 64 bit architecture.
  • This functionality works with the GP 2013 Web Client.
  • It stores the attachments on company specific SQL tables instead of storing the attachments on a shared location.

This feature can be turned on (or) off from the setup in Dynamics GP as shown below.

Once this feature is turned on, there will be a paper clip icon on specific GP windows (for now) which will allow us to add documents to the specific record.

Once we click on this button, the Document Attach window opens up, where we can select and upload the documents which we need to attach to the specific record.

I hope this helps the community...

Until next post!

Is the document truly stored in the database or just a pointer to the file in the file system? If truly stored in the database, what purpose does the "Attachment Location Option" directory serve?

Thomas - The Attachment Location Option is the default location which will open up when you click on the paper clip icon on the window (ideally) the default folder which you mention that contains documents which you want to attach in DocAttach. I hope this clarifies.

Can the document be retrieved in CRM?  For instance, if we store a contract there, can I link a CRM field to point to the data storage from GP?

If we are attaching a document through Purchase-->PM Transaction Entry
we need to find the relation between PM tables and attachment tables. If you have please share the relation ship.
