Where UDDI Went

UDDI is a standardized enterprise repository for cataloging web services and other modules according to geography, organizations, or other categorization schemes. A common use for UDDI is service discovery among a set of trusted nodes.

If you've been using UDDI Services with Windows Server 2003 or Windows Server 2008, then you may have noticed that these services are no longer present in Windows Server 2008 R2. This is because starting with UDDI Services 3.0 the product comes with BizTalk Server rather than Windows Server. UDDI Services 3.0 has some significant updates since the previous version but supports a compatible upgrade from UDDI Services 2.0 sites.

A standalone download for UDDI Services 3.0 for Window Server 2008 R2 is available. You can also install this package on Windows 7 although the actual server won't be present. This allows you to do development with the SDK and developer tools without having to run on a server operating system.
