One Minute Survey: WCF PDC Topics

What would you most like to see at PDC for WCF?

1.
New features in WCF for .Net 4
2.
How to use WCF better in applications today
3.
Internal details of WCF
4.
Using WCF with workflow services

Include as much commentary with your selection as you’d like. I generally don’t publish comments for survey questions but many people are auto-approved to show up. If you’d prefer your response to definitely not be visible to others, you can send it in the contact form.

I guess that each of the new topic of WCF 4 deserves its own session. I'll opt for all of the last three sessions. The WCF internal details would be my favorite, but I guess WCF with workflow services and better use today would suit a larger audience. Will there be separate sessions on discovery and routing?

I'll always vote for #3 :) A talk devoted to discovery would also be nice.

Everything on your list? :-) If that isn't possible I'd prefer seeing details of new features in WCF for .Net 4.

I generally prefer to make good applications today than adhering to the v.next syndrome so I have to go for 2 and 3. Cheers

    It is difficult to choose :-) I’ll pick 2 &. :-) Anders

I would prefer topic 2, with a special point of view on how to make a better use of WCF in Azure

A lot of people I work with mostly care about WCF performance. In terms of your options this means WCF internals and how to better use WCF today, as well as any new relevant features in .Net 4.

  1. Internal details of WCF This seemed like the most "prerequsite" of all the survey options... that is, you would do well to understand the internal details of WCF before learning more on WCF 4.0, how to use it in applications today, and workflow services. Although best practices and guidelines are quick, I think that really understanding the framework is the key to using it properly.

    (2) sounds more like a TechEd topic to me. I'd be very interested in (3), if it took a "design decisions and compromises" approach, with some thinking about how this might develop in future, particularly in the light of (1) and (4). That sounds more PDC-ish to me.

I agree. I would love to see some DOs and DONTs. There is no perfect technology and this applies to WCF.

With the latest security changes in Vista and Win7 we've lost the seamless IPC. What I mean is that if multiple componets would like to intercommunicate on the same machine - security messages are starting to pop up. If the http://localhost or net.tcp://localhost are used - 2 different security messages are popping up. So, what I'd like to hear is: what are the best practices for Inter Process Communication on the same machine?

Thanks for everyone that took the time to vote or write in last week. Here were the results up through Friday (fractions for people that voted more than 1):

  1. New features in WCF for .Net 4 (7.5)
  2. How to use WCF better in applications today (16)
  3. Internal details of WCF (8.5)
  4. Using WCF with workflow services (4) The votes and comments all do get passed along for planning PDC.
