Got a new toy: Sprint USB Wireless Modem
My buddies at Sprint sent me a new USB Wireless Modem to play with. This is the new Novatel Wireless Ovation U720, which plus via USB. I can play with Sprint's EVDO Rev A network which is super-fast. A few months ago I tried an EVDO PC-Card, also courtesy of Sprint, and I was quite impressed.
Forget about looking for a HotSpot or tilting your laptop at the airport to get a WiFi connection. It seems like most metro areas have EVDO Rev A coverage now, and most major cities have EVDO at least. When I tested the EVDO card I synchronized my mail using the 1xRTT network literaly in the middle of a desser in Arizona. It looks like the EVDO coverage in this area is pretty good.
My first concern was - will this work with Vista? I know many of the WWAN hardware providers did some non-standard tricks in their drivers and they were working on new versions for Vista. I was pleasantly surprised to find a Vista version on the drivers at www.sprint.com/downloads
I'll report back in a few weeks!

I have the U720 from Sprint and i just installed Vista Ultimate on my laptop. I have not been able to get the drivers to install for this device. I have downloaded the vista drivers from sprints site but still no luck. Let me know if you are able to get yours loaded. Thanks Robert VanceAnonymous

I like the "I'll check in a few weeks". At first blush the Sprint drivers do not work even remotely. Interesting eror messages in the installer and a failed driver installation (not signed) when connected. I recommend you try it . . .Anonymous

I have used it for a few months with absolutely zero problems. It works great anywhere. Obviously in remote areas you don't get EVDO, but 1xRTT which is much slower, however my experience has been very positive. I am using software 3.08.029. There is a new software version available, which I am downloading now. http://www4.sprint.com/pcsbusiness/downloads/SWISCMDO_3.09.013.exe
