Windows Vista update for ISVs
Next Tuesday May 9 I'll be speaking at the Belux ISV Community Day on Windows Vista. At this event we will be covering how Windows Vista can bring value to your organisation and why you need to consider moving your applications to this platform for the next generation of software. Besides introducing the concepts around clarity, connectivity and security included in Windows Vista, Peter Himschoot will deliver 2 technical sessions on WinFX, the set of next-generation managed APIs provided by Microsoft.

There are still a few places left. If you're interested in taking your technical knowledge of the Windows Vista operating system and the next-generation Microsoft application platform to the next level, then attend this half-day demo-driven ISV Community Update. Featuring Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF) and Windows Communication Foundation (WCF), Infocard and the Windows Workflow Foundation these sessions will show you how to build compelling connected systems.
Below the detailed agenda.
Session 1: Windows Vista - Platform for the next generation of software
WiWindows Vista is a substantial advance in Windows, with significant innovations in the platform. In this session you will get an overview on how Windows Vista makes it easier than ever before to build applications that are more secure, reliable, and manageable. Windows Vista also enables developers and designers to create user-experience breakthroughs that improve usability and enable greater relevance to the work users do. Finally you will be able to find out how easy it is to build secure applications by using features such as User Account Protection and code access security.
Session 2: Introducing WinFX: Windows Presentation Foundation and Infocard
WinFX, the set of next-generation managed APIs provided by Microsoft,
The Microsoft Windows Presentation Foundation provides the foundation for building applications and high fidelity experiences in Windows Vista, blending together application UI, documents, and media content, while exploiting the full power of your computer. As part of WinFX Microsoft has also produced a vision for an Identity Metasystem. The products to support this code named InfoCard are based on WS-* protocols. InfoCard not only provides authentication and authorization for both the internet and web services, but in addition helps with many of the identity problems we have today like Phishing and identity theft.
This session will introduce many of the core concepts in the Windows Presentation Foundation programming model, such as XAML, layout, controls, resources, styling, and data-binding and provide you with an insight how WPF-based applications let customers visualize information in ways never before possible. Next, we will show you how Infocard improves the safety of accessing resources and sharing personal information on the Internet.
Session 3: Introducing WinFX: Windows Communication Foundation and Windows Workflow Foundation
SoSoftware is invariably interconnected, but connecting software together can be tough. The Windows Communication Foundation introduces a new model-driven approach to distributed computing that provides a single way of tackling any kind of software communication problem. Windows Workflow Foundation is a framework for building Workflow functionality into your applications. This session will give you an introduction to the key features and core concepts of the technology by showing you several demos. You will see how to build workflows, utilize workflow activities, debug workflows, and represent the control flow of an application. You will also see several key features including the Visual Studio Workflow Designer and both Sequential and State machine workflows.
Session 4: Build Better Software on Windows Vista with the Touchdown Program and ISV Advisory Services
ISV partners rely on Microsoft to build better software. The Windows Vista Touchdown Program, an early adoption program for ISV partners, provides you with free hands-on training, technical support and compatibility labs. Additionally ISV Advisory Services, which are available to Empower, Certified and Gold Certified members of MSPP, provide help in the following areas:
• Application certification assistance
• Development advice and best practices
• Code samples
• Technology architecture or application design reviews
• Tech-talks and workshops
In In this session you will get an overview on how to benefit from these services in order to build better software.
