Windows 7 Springboard Series

You have may heard a lot of buzz about Windows 7 being released to manufacturing (RTM). This is a huge milestone for any software organization because it means that the coding is done, product team has signed off on the deliverables, and it’s being prepared to be sent to partners and resellers.

But there is a lot of information about Windows 7 that you might have read or heard about. If you go to the Microsoft TechNet Windows Client web site at https://microsoft.com/springboard, you can see a videos on features like BranchCaching, building a bootable Windows 7 VHD (Virtual Hard Drive), migrating from Windows XP to Win7, and much more. Definitely worth checking out.

If you’re trying to figure out when Windows 7 RTM will be available for, check out the blog article by the Windows 7 team on “When will you get Windows 7 RTM”. It outlines who will be able to get bits and how.

Several OEM partners picked up their copy this past weekend, otherwise, they’ll have to wait until August 6th. TechNet and MSDN subscribers will be able to download it on August 6th as well.

Business customers with existing Software Assurance (SA) will be able to download it from the Volume License Service center on August 7th. If you don’t have SA on your Windows licenses, you’ll be able to purchase it on September 1st.

For public beta testers and consumers, you’ll have to wait until October 22 before you can get it.
