Windows Vista User Account Control Internals

Windows Vista Firewall and IPSec Enhancements

Bored with Windows networking? Haven't seen anything new in, like, forever? Well just wait until you see what Windows Vista packs! It's networking components are all-new from the ground up. The TCP/IP stack has been rebuilt for performance and security, with routing compartments that prevent unwanted forwarding of traffic between the Internet and a VPN (for example), support for the strong end-system model, a completely re-designed filtering engine, improved automatic performance fine-tuning, increased resiliency against TCP/IP-based denial-of-service attacks, and full IPv6 support. The firewall includes all Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2) functionality plus bi-directional policy control, enforcement of service hardening communications, an automatic no-exceptions mode for un-patched systems, additional management capabilities, and many new audit events. IPsec's wealth of enhancements include simplified policies to speed connection time, a completely re-designed User Interface (UI) (integrated with the firewall), user-based policies, application-aware policies, more troubleshooting and diagnostic tools, Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) support, and support for secure client-to-domain controller traffic. Whew! There's a lot here, and Steve Riley will help you fall in love with Windows networking all over again.
Advanced Windows Troubleshooting with Sysinternals Process Monitor

Process Monitor is a free new troubleshooting tool that replaces Sysinternals' Filemon and Regmon with one even more powerful tool. In addition to monitoring file system and Registry operations, Process Monitor logs processes and threads, collects more information, includes advanced filtering, shows calling thread stacks for every event, and provides numerous ways to view collected data. This session, delivered by the tool's author, shows you with real-world examples advanced techniques to troubleshoot a range of Windows system and application issues, including DLL conflicts, permissions problems and configuration errors.

The new Microsoft iSCSI Target Application Pack lets NAS vendors extend Windows Storage Server R2 workloads to block-level application data such as Exchange, SQL and Virtual Server 2005 R2.
