Introducing Jim Byer

Hi, my name is Jim Byer. I am a fairly new Tester on the Migration Tools team. I have been a Tester at Microsoft for 9 years and worked at Novell for 5 years before that. Even though I have remained in Test throughout my career, I have had a lot of coding experience in many different programming languages and can now add LotusScript to the list.

Since I have been on this team, I have been testing the Data Migrator (Beta just released) and am now focused on testing the Mail Migrator for E12. My recent research has revolved around getting a better feel for the typical Notes users and mailboxes. The better I can model the “Real World” in our test environment, the more confidence I will have of a good customer experience when we ship. I encourage any Notes users to send me info on what their environment looks like so we know we are including your world within our Test boundaries.

On a more personal level, I am married to a wonderful woman and we have four children who love to be Testers and find the stress point at which things break. :o) My family is very important to me and I have found that to be a common sentiment among the other members of this team. I am active in my church. My hobbies include genealogy, playing basketball (when I’m not recovering from basketball related injuries), and helping my children with their hobbies and sports (My son has a pinewood derby race coming up next month).

Blog you later, Jim.
