How to install multiple language packs for Office SharePoint Server 2007
Hi,
Here are the instructions to provide support for multiple languages in your SharePoint farm.
1) Pre-requisite: Install additional language file support
1. On your front-end Web server, click Start, point to Settings and then Control Panel, and then click Regional and Language Options.
2. In the Regional and Language Options dialog box, on the Languages tab, in the Supplemental Language Support section, select one or both of the following checkboxes:
o Install files for complex script and right-to-left languages
o Install files for East Asian languages
3. Click OK in the dialog box that alerts you that additional disk space is required for the files.
4. Click OK to install the additional language files.
5. When prompted, insert your Windows Server 2003 product disc or provide the location of your Windows Server 2003 installation files.
6. When prompted to restart your computer, click Yes.
2) Install each Language Pack in the following order:
For each language:
- WSS Language pack (SharePointLanguagePack.exe) https://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=36EE1BF0-652C-4E38-B247-F29B3EEFA048&displaylang=en (Use the change language drop down to choose different language’s language pack download)
- WSS Language pack SP1 (SharePoint.exe) https://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=EF93E453-75F1-45DF-8C6F-4565E8549C2A&displaylang=en (Use the change language drop down to choose different language’s language pack download)
- MOSS Language pack ( extract *.IMG file) https://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=2447426B-8689-4768-BFF0-CBB511599A45&displaylang=en (Use the change language drop down to choose different language’s language pack download)
- MOSS Language pack SP1 (officelp2007sp1-kb936982-fullfile-it-it.exe) https://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=1F5C7D10-B4F9-482D-B0E5-9547A7F508E5&displaylang=en (Use the change language drop down to choose different language’s language pack download)

4) Notes:
· Install all your language packs at the start, as once you create your site collections you cannot then add sub sites in languages you install later.
· The language packs are architecture specific so you’ll need either x64 or x86.
· The installers use the same ‘update’ architecture as SharePoint, therefore you can extract the Service Packs into the \Updates folder so you only install two and not four.
· Install the WSS and WSS (SP1) followed by MOSS and MOSS (SP1) packs.
· Ensure that the packs complete the configuration wizard. It may ask you restart your machine.
· Do the English (or your native language) first to learn the screens and prompts. You won’t understand what some of the prompts mean. Use https://babelfish.yahoo.com to translate them.
· The IMG file needs to be extracted. You can “mount” this image file using Daemon Tools utility (free and good) https://www.daemon-tools.cc/dtcc/download.php?mode=ViewCategory&catid=5
· For more information, have a look at the great guidance on TechNet - Deploy Language Packs : https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc262108(TechNet.10).aspx
· Test any update in your test environment before updating any production system.

Thanks for the guide. The "Use the change language drop down" helped a lot :) Maybe this could be emphasized a bit more on the download site as I completely missed that. Please note that two of your links are wrong:For WSS SP1 the url you supplied is for WSS AND SP1 install. For just the service pack the url is:http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=05046B1D-DD7B-456A-8838-8D978C5F3579&displaylang=enMOSS Language pack SP1 should be:http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=3A6C26FD-0BEB-40D5-8CBA-15164FAAB150&displaylang=enThe URL you supplied was for Office only.Darrell - Anonymous

if you are not slip streaming installs do you have to run config wizard (or psconfig) between each install? I know you don't have to run config between WSS and MOSS for the same CU for example, but what if you are installing SP2 and April09 CU? Do you have to run config wizard between your WSS and MOSS SP2 and the WSS and MOSS April09 CU if you don't slip stream? thank you - Anonymous

We have been running moss2007 w/o language packs and default 1033 English for 2 yrs now, we're currently going through Sp2 updates and have a new requirement to have a site in Finnish - If I read the MS instructions correctly, we cannot install the LPs at this point in the game as it says "sub-sites will be unavailable" this makes no sense? Would not a new site collection created in the new language work as expected and existing SCs opperate in their native format? - Anonymous
